How To Activate A Phone On The Verizon Wireless Network

By

Is it time for you to get a new phone?

Evaluate your phone swap

Are you switching between a phone that has data to one that does not? There are a few questions you should be thinking about prior to swapping the phones on your line:

  • By completing a Device ID Change today, what about your plan or service could be changing?

Write down every single plan change you think may occur. You need to be prepared to ask customer service about each of these items later on during the process as they may be required to assist you in the swap.

For example, if you are moving from a Smartphone to a Basic phone, you will be removing your unlimited data plan. Make sure you tell every representative that you fully intend to keep the data as an unlimited package but you have to activate another cell phone temporarily. That way, should you want to move back to a Smartphone within the next 60 days, you can easily recover your unlimited data package. If you wait longer than 60 days, expect your only data options for Smartphone's to be those with a limited amount of usage per month for the exact same price or more than you had been paying for unlimited data. Verizon Wireless 4G LTE with UNLIMITED DATA is the most valuable feature in the cell phone industry. To lose such an awesome benefit due to carelessness would be horrible.

THE NEW PHONE MUST BE FULLY CHARGED!!!

Please, do not try to activate your new phone without it being fully charged... This will cause a great deal of problems later on.

Ensure your old phone is turned off

One of the most common issues with activating a new phone on your wireless phone number, also called a device id change, is the customer forgetting to turn off the phone they are attempting to deactivate. When the phone is connected to the network, deactivation is impossible.

Dial *228 on the phone you're trying to activate

When the automated woman begins talking press 1. You will most likely be prompted to type in your phone number and billing account password. If you are processing a device ID change that requires a plan change, you will instantly be connected to the customer service department. When you are connected with customer service, provide your alternative phone number and ask that they first call you back on that line so your new phone can be activated properly.

Request the representative process a Device ID Change

The manual device ID change should take less than five minutes. Make sure the agent stays on the line with you throughout the process so you can ensure your phone will activate properly. You definitely don't want to have to wait on hold again!

If you can't activate your new replacement phone due to whatever reason...

Order a new phone! Don't pay for the amazing Verizon Wireless network without having an active cell phone! Pick out the phone you definitely want and call customer service. If you are polite, you are likely to get whatever phone you want. They definitely don't want to lose customers...
